2019-2020 Town of Cheverly Budget Process


The Cheverly Budget process is beginning! The process as I have seen is that the Town Administrator does the lion share of the work, collecting input from the Mayor & Council and Department Heads for items to include in the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) list. The council and Town Administrator discuss the budget and property tax rate over the next few months and eventually pass the final budget in June.

The CIP list in the past has included items such as the bond payment for the police station, a dump truck, new police vehicles, microsoft office software, air conditioning for the gym, street repairs, lighting bollards in legion park.

Mayor Mike has asked for the council to bring our ideas for the 2019-2020 CIP list to the next Town Meeting (Feb 14). I'm still working through some ideas I have been collecting through my conversations with the community but here are some outlines:

1. text alert system
2. public works reportingt system(to track requests from the community),
3. no smoking signs for our playgrounds,
4. I would also like to work with the council and community to develop a new safe walkway for pedestrians into town from Rt. 202.
5. Finally, I have not given up on curbside composting and I would like to see if there is something we can do to divert all animal and plant matter from going to the landfill.
